Forming a gateway between the industrial heartlands of the North West of England and the incredible rural landscapes of North Wales, the city of Chester was always going to be of historic and strategic importance. And so, as Roman capital of Britannia, the scene was set for thousands of years of history, much of it retained within the walls, streets and buildings of the city today. A visually stunning city and living monument to the history of England as a whole, Chester draws the crowds for its unique character and plays host to business meetings, private celebrations and weddings, all of which benefit from some truly outstanding Chester venues.

The importance of the city to the Romans is evident from the many structures and artefacts from the period. The most notable of these is the Roman amphitheatre, which once held 10,000 spectators and is now an important archaeological site. The street plan of the city dates back to Roman times too as do the foundations for the city walls. The walls themselves are still very much in evidence, and indeed are the most complete of any British city, but largely date from the mediaeval period. Although Roman in origin, Chester is dominated by mediaeval architecture, from the castle and the cathedral, to many of the timber-framed buildings, some of which form popular Chester venues for a range of purposes.
The appeal of Chester as a fine example of a mediaeval city was recognised in the Victorian age when, although canals were constructed to bring the city into industrial use, many of the buildings erected in this period were done so in a mediaeval style.

Interestingly, they were built over two floors with the lower floor under ground level to maintain the continuity of the architecture above ground and provide for contemporary shops accessed by stairs to the lower level. This certainly works well and the city contains all the features of any modern city without compromising the historic appeal.

Chester venues make the most of the period surrounds and there are hotels which evoke all the historic charm of the city yet provide the very latest designs and technologies of business and meeting spaces. Different rooms and suites will cater for different meeting plans, from boardrooms, to lecture style seating and open plan spaces for exhibitions, launches and presentations. Meetings packages may be available which offer options in size of venue, numbers of delegates and hospitality, with buffet or sit down dining as required. Classic hotels will have classic restaurant facilities too and lounges in which to enjoy any free time.
Chester venues certainly make a unique backdrop for business-oriented functions but it perhaps wedding celebrations which benefit most from the historic tone and ambience of many hotels and other function spaces. In house wedding co-ordinators are often available to discuss any specific requirements which will personalise the event and enhance the big day.

In addition to the historic city centre hotels, Chester has some great traditional coaching inns which make terrific wedding venues and with some being licensed to conduct civil partnerships and ceremonies too, they can provide everything required in the one place for the whole day.
Hotels and inns make popular Chester venues since in addition to having all the function spaces, drinks and dining options in place they can also provide accommodation for guests. Given however that Chester is a major visitor destination there are no shortage of accommodation options and many venues are available within other establishments such as bars, clubs and restaurants. Whichever venue is chosen, the city has numerous additional facilities, amenities and attractions to make any length of stay both memorable and enjoyable.
